Barchup saucy chicken? this is a meal that will hit right into your soul. Full of flavour and I like to call this a meal for those who like it sweet and tart. Haha, yes sweet and tart because it gives you the sweet taste while ensuring that you have the tart taste. I honestly did not know how sweet this sauce would turn out. It was born from the lack of having some ingredients which were soy sauce, tomato paste and some fish sauce one evening as I was preparing my meal where I had intended to make fillet cut and then mix with some sauce. It was late and there was no way, I could go and shop for the missing ingredients. I had to make use of what I had in the house and that is how the barchup sauce came to be.

Today, I decided to share with you the sauce while making an amazing chicken meal as we make this yummy barchup saucy chicken. Marination Ingredients
  • 1/4 tsp Thyme
  • 1 tsp Paprika
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1/4 tsp Garam Masala
  • A Pinch of Salt
  • Some Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 kg of Chicken Breast
Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 Bulbs of Roughly Chopped Onions
  • 1 tsp Garlic and ginger paste
  • 1 tsp Cumin Powder
  • 1 tsp Black Pepper
  • 1 tsp Chicken Masala
  • 1/4 Cup of Ketchup
  • 1/4 Cup Barbeque Sauce
  • A Pinch of Salt
  • 1/3 Cup of Cooking Oil
Marinating the Chicken
  1. Cut the chicken into large chunks

  2. In a bowl add in your chicken followed by the spices

  3. Add in the thyme, paprika, cumin powder, black pepper, garam masala, salt and soy sauce

  4. Mix everything together and let the chicken marinate for 30 minutes

Cooking the Sauce
  1. In a cooking pan or sufuria, add in oil and let it heat up

  2. Add in your onions fry until translucent or slighly golden brown

  3. Add in your ginger and garlic paste. Let it cook for about 2-3 minutes.

  4. Add in your cumin powder, black pepper and chicken masala, stir and mix with the onions and ginger and garlic paste.

  5. Next, add in your chicken breast and stir

  6. Add in some very little water to ensure your chicken does not stick onto the cooking pan or sufuria

  7. Cover and let the chicken cook for about 5-10 minutes until ready. As it cooks, keep on opening the cooking pan or sufuria to stir the chicken. This ensures that your chicken evenly cooks.

  8. Once the chicken is ready, add in the ketchup and barbecue sauce. Stir and cover the cooking pan. Let the sauce simmer for about 2-3 minutes until it thickens.

  9. Remove from the heat and serve your meal
