HOMEMADE CRUNCHY FRENCH FRIES (CHIPS) IN TWO WAYS

Homemade crunchy french fries, this was an obsession for most of us when we were young. A weekend would hardly pass by without fries and this grew to an adult obsession for me. Whenever i pass by Nairobi town, at times it can be hard to resist the smell of the fries from the take away joints. Well, now that we are older, we can make our own homemade fries without the fear of very hot oil.

Ingredients
  • Potatoes
Instructions
  1. Begin by peeling your potatoes.

  2. Wash and rinse the potatoes thoroughly with running water.

  3. Cut each potato into thin round slices this should not be too thin or too thick. Cutting them into round slices makes it easier to have the edgy look of fries when you cut them in the next step.

  4. Cut the round slices into fry-like shapes.

  5. Transfer the cut fry-like shapes into a bowl with water and soak in the potatoes to remove excess starch for about 2-3 minutes then drain off the water. Once done with this step, you can decide to use either of the two methods below.

Method One (1)
  1. On a kitchen towel, dry the uncooked fries to remove any excess water.

  2. Add oil into your cooking pan or deep fryer and heat it up. Next, add in your dried uncooked fries and fry while turning on each side until they are well cooked.

  3. Once ready drain the excess oil and Finally remove and serve.

Method Two (2)
  1. Add salt into boiled water

  2. Add the already soaked slices of potatoes into the water and cook for 3 minutes. Ensure you do not cook for too long otherwise they will become soft. Then drain off the water.

  3. Transfer the precooked potato fries into a bowl and cover with a lid then store in the freezer for about 1 hour.

  4. After 1 hour, heat oil in a cooking pan or deep fryer. Then add in your fries and fry until partially cooked.

  5. Remove and transfer into a bowl with a tight lid container and freeze for 30 minutes or until when you want to have fries for lunch or dinner. Then re-fry

  6. Fry the final round then remove and serve.

Homemade Crunchy Fries Seasoning & Accompaniments

Finally you can get to enjoy your fries. To add more flavour to your homemade crunchy french fries (chips) is optional. However, you can season with salt, black pepper and a touch of paprika. You can as well add in some tomato sauces or like what I enjoy some hot and sweet sauce.

You can get to enjoy your homemade crunchy french fries (chips) with several other meals such as fish fingers, honey-cinnamon pork recipe  or some goat meat.
